Lying Essay Example for Free

Lying Essay Despite the fact that lying is harmful in various ways, at some point in each of our lives we have lied, some may be more than other but we all tell a little lie once in a while. In the article Lying Tim Mazur talks about the possible consequences that one can for lying and also mention various reason what may cause some to lie. Tim Mazur believes people lie to maintain relationships, please others, avoid awardness and punishment. From my perspective I believe there are circumstances where lying can be acceptable under the following circumstances: to maintain peace, in order to gain something beneficial that can become life-changing , to protect the wealth of others, and to please others. (implicate how lying can affect others and possible consequences one can face in the begging) One circumstance under which it is acceptable for someone to tell a lie is a situation in which something beneficial that can become life-changing by virtue of the lie. An opportunity that is life-changing can improve the course of ones day-day existence drastically. And that being said, if ones day to day existence can be improved drastically, then a lie (especially a small one) is well-worth it. For example, the possibility to gain a career through lying could be well-worth it, because it can shape the course of ones present future. If for instance the applicant knows she or he is fully capable of performing a task but has no experience performing it, and the job requires experience or skills that field. She or he might lie about their skills/experience in order to have a better chance at obtaining the job . She or he could then quickly learn the required skills. The confidence that the applicant can bring his or skills up to par has earned she or he a job, and she or he has not hurt either herself or the company at that has now hired him or her. Another circumstance in which it is acceptable for one to tell is when its to please others. Pleasing others is when one says or does something good, to keep that person pleased. For example in todays society almost all parents tell their children that Santa clause is realistic or telling them that the tooth fairy left a dollar under their pillow because they lost their tooth. The parents are doing their kids a favor by telling them a lie that both Santa clause, and, the tooth fairy are real by not ruining there childhood. The parents lie to their kids so their children can some sort of imagination. (explain how it isnt hurting the kids and how everyone benefits etc)

Spring Jazz Band Concert Report

On Friday, April 29, 2011, I went to see Spring Jazz Concert at Sophia B. Clarke Theater. Most of performers have great instrument skill and show us a wonderful music. Each movement highlights the character, range, and technical abilities of an individual instrument, all of pieces stand on their own as intricate musical gems. The show was divided for two parts, and they have different sections on those two parts.During the concert, we would hear different music programs by playing in different music instruments such as saxophones, trumpets, trombones, drums, bass, guitar, and piano. Each performer represents different music instruments. On the first parts of the concert, there were three songs. In conclusion, I enjoyed this concert very much because the music in this concert was very nice. In my opinion, I had totally different feelings between I listened music in the concert and at home, and the atmosphere of concert was awesome.Besides the music, I had deep impression in the perfor mers; every performers in the concert had much passion when they were performing. In my opinion, because of their wonderful performance, I could hear such nice music. Also, everyone in the concert was polite. Every times when conductor came to the stage or the song was end, almost every audience stood up and applauded to the performers, the applause lasted for a pretty long time. At that time, I felt so good. All in all, I really enjoyed this concert. The tone color of most of the jazz bands that I saw was smooth and inviting. This made the bands easier to listen to. They were polyphonic in structure, where all of the different instruments were playing different melodies. The rhythm that was used was in a quadruple meter. This was true for all of the bands. The only thing that I wished would have happened was that there would have been more improvisation instead of reading from sheet music. They were very structured in that way.

Samuel Adams The Founding Of The U.s. - 1318 Words

Erin Koss U.S. Government, 6th Samuel Adams Samuel Adams Many people have heard of John Adams, however, far fewer people know of his also famous cousin Samuel Adams. Samuel Adams was one of America’s founding fathers, and is also known for many of his other contributions to the upbringing of modern day America. Throughout this paper, I will be telling you why I chose to write about Samuel Adams, his life, and his notable contributions to the founding of the U.S., as well as their significance. First, I chose Samuel Adams to write my essay on due to the fact that throughout learning about the founding fathers, it came to my attention that we have never learned about him in the past. As for some of the other founding fathers, such as†¦show more content†¦Because of his wealth, he was ranked number five in a class of twenty at Harvard College. Many people found this ironic due to the fact that he was caught in public drinking underage as well as being late for Morning Prayer on multiple occasions. While Samuel was in college, his father, along with other investors, tried to start a Land Bank in Massachusetts. This Land Bank was very popular for a short period of time, until the British Parliament decided they were opposed to it. Due to this, they shut the Land Bank down, leading the Adams family into bankruptcy. This affected Samuel profoundly. People don’t know if it was because of his hostility or the opposition to British law in the colony. Because his parents had no more money to support him at college, he was forced to work at the University to make up for the lack of money. Later, in 1748, Samuel inherited a very large estate along with his father’s brewery business when his parents passed away. He was left with a number of lawsuits from the Land Bank controversy. This was hard for him to take care of, and pay for because of the little income he had from his current government job. (â€Å"Family†) In 1749, Samuel Adams married the daughter of his Pas tor named Elizabeth Checkley. The couple had six children all together, but sadly only two survived to adulthood, Samuel Jr. and Hannah. Oddly enough,
